In every situation, our only choices are fear and faith. Since these two cannot coexist, we must always choose. We need to praise God in the good times and we need to praise God in the bad times. Praise is our weapon against the forces of evil; it is comfort in our stormy seasons and it gives us hope that God works all things out for good. Isaiah 25:1 says, “O Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you; I will praise your name, for you have done wonderful things, plans formed of old, faithful and sure.” A life filled with consistent praise will forever change our walk with God. Add prayer to the equation and we’ve defeated every enemy on the battlefield before the war has started. Here are 5 benefits of praising God in advance.
My mouth will tell of your righteous acts, of your deeds of salvation all the day, for their number is past my knowledge. Psalm 71:15
- Praising God in advance increases our trust in Him. Giving our trials too much attention overshadows all the good things God has done, all the prayers He has answered and all the ways in which he has provided. Praise forces us to acknowledge God’s goodness and favor towards us. Praising God for what He has done in the past shifts our focus and gives us hope that He will deliver again in His perfectly ordained timing.
At midnight I rise to praise you, because of your righteous rules.Psalm 119:62
- Praising God in advance sets the atmosphere for Him to move in His specific way. Oftentimes, we have already decided how and when we would like God to show up. When the story doesn’t unfold as expected, we become frustrated. We sometimes blame God. In doing so, we miss the opportunities He has orchestrated to grow and transform us into His image.
Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord, O my soul! I will praise the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being.Psalm 146:1-2
- Praising God in advance fuels optimism. Who doesn’t feel amazing after a good praise break? Giving God the glory makes us more joyful beings. With a more positive attitude, we’re more inclined to be solution oriented, to foster the mindset of an overcomer rather than being a victim of our circumstances. Praise keeps us positively present.
What shall I render to the Lord for all his benefits to me? I will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the Lord, I will pay my vows to the Lord in the presence of all his people.Psalm 116:12-14
- Praising God in advance helps us preach a better life sermon. What’s important is not what is happening, but how we’re coping and who we are looking to for strength to press on. Our attitude towards life either glorifies God and builds character or compromises our walk and casts doubt as to what God can and will do. When others observe our walk, what message are we sending?
With my mouth I will give great thanks to the Lord; I will praise him in the midst of the throng.Psalm 109:30
- Praising God in advance takes the focus off of us and places it exactly where it belongs, on God. It gives us the platform to glorify God simply because He is God; He is good; and His mercies are new every morning. It is our weapon against worry for He has requested that we cast everything that hurts our soul upon Him.
By all means acknowledge life’s trials. Be honest and realistic, but know that they are simply a small chapter of a much bigger story that God has authored. Be confident that God is always in control because He know all, sees all and is ever present.
