Life Over Lust
The orgasm, the blunt, the cocktail, the juicy gossip, the “lazy day” you took when you had so much to accomplish, the words you speak which tear others down, the thing you put before God and ministry, the jealousy that drives you to spend what you don’t have on what you don’t need… Is it worth it? Is it worth your salvation? The salvation of your family? The salvation of your co-workers and friends?
Today from 12:00 a.m.- 11:59 p.m. we will be asking God to reveal to us the lusts of our flesh that we may give into. In this society, where giving into your lusts is encouraged and entertained, it may be difficult to recognize these lusts at all. God always provides a way of escape, but the temptations to give into these lusts will always be present. God won’t always remove them altogether because He wants us to grow spiritually stronger by overcoming them. We have to weigh the pros and cons: is feeding my flesh worth my salvation? How can feeding my flesh separate me from my God? How will God get the glory and how will others be drawn closer to God if I withstand this temptation?
Below are all the lusts of the flesh as found in Galatians 5:19-21 and their definitions according to Merriam-Webster dictionary:

Verses for Meditation
I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.Galatians 5:16-21 NKJV
No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.1 Corinthians 10:13
Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.James 1:12 NKJV
Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed.James 1:13-14 NKJV
Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.James 1:21 NKJV
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.James 1:22-25 NKJV
